Hi to All,
I hope you had a great weekend with some dancing. I do my best to keep you updated about closings and changes. If you hear of an event being closed, please email me. I will do what I can to get the information out to everyone. Please understand that I can only do an email update when I am at my home computer where my distribution list lives.   If there is any question in your mind about an event, please contact the organizer or the club directly.

Thanks to those who have sent updates to me on schedule changes, etc.   I most appreciate receiving your information by Sunday evening or early Monday, whenever possible. That way they can be included in the newsletter when I write it, rather than coming out as an update.

Welcome to the new readers. Thank you for all the information you send to me. Thank you also to Dave Moldover from whose newsletter I freely borrow information about many of the events listed here.

For those of you interested in dance cruises and concerts, some are listed near the end of this newsletter. There are several cruises and a land-based vacation listed. There are also some new workshops and weekday dances for the summer.

        Does anyone have anything to report?

1. The 'Country by the Bay' dance on Saturday in Chesapeake Beach was a fun one. We missed some of you there. Our next dance is September 13. The band will be JR Booker.

2. I received the following from Roz & Nat Morgan: "Roz and I are putting together an all-inclusive trip to the Caribbean for next Memorial Day week. We are probably going to go to Cancun or Playa Del Carmen. Please get in touch with me if you are interested. We need to book space ASAP since that is a prime week for travel, and you'll have an extra day to recuperate.c.d.express@comcast.net" So, if you're looking ahead for a vacation in 2009, get in touch with them.

3. "BIG" DAVE BAYCROFT, a well known choreographer and instructor from the UK, will be in Pennsylvania for a one-day line dance workshop. He has recently instructed at several US events such as Worlds in Nashville and Tampa Bay Line Dance Classic. He will also be at the JG2 Marathon this year. Dave will be teaching dances for all levels: beginners, intermediates & advanced. Come out and enjoy a day of learning the "hottest" line dances from the UK. Then plan on staying for the evening dance to practice what you learned.   Anyone interested in attending this workshop can contact Diane at ddklinedinst@comcast.net.

4. There are a number of dance locations where the floor is not very slick for dancing. This seems to happen mostly with the tile floors that were never exactly intended for country dancing. Many dancers use baby powder, or some other type of powder to help make the surface comfortable for dancing. It has come to my attention that when there is a band, the dancers need to put the powder on the floor somewhere away from the band. Playing and singing are difficult when the powder gets stirred up & causes band members to have difficulty breathing and seeing. Dancers, the bands are playing the music for you to dance, so please be considerate as to where the powder supplies are placed.

5. Please note: ALL LESSONS at Nick's, both front room and back room on all nights will now start at 7:45. This change was effective as of Tuesday, March 4.

6. Country dancing continues this week at Pepe's Restaurant & Lounge in Sterling, VA with the Southern Winds Band. Matt Leonard teaches lessons beginning at 7:30. Cover $5. The food is Tex-Mex and Latin. Drinks are reasonably priced.

7. If you're looking for some dancing on Sundays, check out the 1st Sunday of the month dance at the Reston Community Center. There's a good dance floor, with lots of space. DJ Mike plays lots of line dance music, but there's room for couples on the floor at the same time. It starts at 6:30 & goes to 9:30, so it's an early night. Ages 18 & older are welcome. Cost is $5 and some refreshments are provided.   Beginning with the dance on June 1, the dances will be held for several months at the Reston Conservatory Ballet at 2254 Hunters Woods Plaza, Reston, VA 20191; 703-715-8366. As a token of appreciation, the dance admission will be free while the regular location is closed.

8. There is also dancing on Sundays twice a month in Manassas at the Center for the Arts in the Candy Factory. The second Sunday dances are Country Western Line dances by DJ Barry Fink from 2-5pm. 9. If you're looking for some dancing & fun for Memorial Day weekend, check 'Looking Ahead' below for Lorri's annual "Pigs, Beer and Bull on the Farm' party.

10. There are 2 Relay for Life dance events scheduled for May 17. You can dance all day & into the night at the same place. Check that date below in 'Looking Ahead' for more details. The daytime event generally sells out because there is limited registration. They've added a couple's section this year to the usual line dancing workshops.

11. The 2008 Light the Night Walk & Ocean City Dance Weekend is already on the schedule. You can make your hotel reservations now. Check the information in 'Looking Ahead' further down on this newsletter for more information.

12. There are several clubs who have websites where you can give feedback on the bands. Help the bands you enjoy by letting management know you like them. It seems that many of the local bands are being pushed aside in favor of the 'Nashville' bands that are trying to make a name for themselves. Some are not all that great, or play less than wonderful dance music. Please let the clubs know that you like the locals and when you find a 'Nashville' band difficult to dance to, or think are just plain not all that good, let your feelings be known. Complaining to me doesn't do as much as contacting the club directly. I have NO influence on the clubs. Also, if there is a band you like, local or not, please help them by letting the club know that you like them. If you notice, there is a distinct similarity in the bands being booked in several of the clubs in the area.

13. The Country Steppers Dance Team is still seeking more dancers to join the team. The team is the official show team for the Northern Virginia Country Western Dance Association (NVCWDA). For information go to the association's web site at: www.nvcwda.org then click on dance team. The purpose of the team is to show the public what country western dancing is all about. So, if you've got some extra time & want to do more dancing, give them a try.

The regular crowd does not do the same country dancing as many of us, but there is plenty of space for all to dance. 1. June 30 to July 4, 2008.............Yellowstone Dance Camp Adventure; Come share the wonders of nature and the joy of dance in one of the most beautiful places on earth. On Monday, be greeted with a hot meal, then dance away the evening with your hosts. For the next three days, meet the morning with a hot breakfast, pack a lunch, then hit the road to explore. Yellowstone has canyons, waterfalls, meadows, geysers, hot pots, and mineral springs. Herds of buffalo and elk roam the area and you never know what wildlife will cross your path. There's plenty to see and do whether you just want to cruise in your car or hit the trails to explore on foot. Unwind in Mother Nature's backyard. Each evening, we'll meet you back at the lodge around 5:30 p.m. for a hot meal (all that fresh air does wonders for your appetite!). Then it's on to dance classes, social dancing and activities. Stroll back to your room under starlit skies-and awake to start the adventure all again. Friday morning, we'll wrap it up with a hot breakfast and say our farewells.
